One of the few wreck dives near Koh Chang is a Thai navy ship named the Thonburi also spelled as Chonburi. She sank in 1941 after a territorial dispute over these waters between Thailand and France. Today she can be found only 200 meters offshore Ko Chang's river mouth. A good reference point can be found looking towards the cliffs where a large 'scar' is visible. It is said that this is the missed first impact blast during its attack. There still is a memorial at Hat Yuthanavy to remember the soldiers who died.
The Thonburi is a dive site which highly depends on currents, visibility, amount of silt and mud. Best time is at low and slack tide when the water is at its calmest. Make sure you visit during the perfect conditions or you might be disappointed and see absolutely nothing.
