Sail Rock or Hin Bae is considered to many divers one of the best dive sites in the Western Gulf of Thailand located in between Ko Samui, Ko Pha Ngang and Ko Tau. It is a single and large granite rock pinnacle rising to above the surface from a depth of twenty meters. It is famous for its chimney which is a vertical shaft downwards. Its entrance is at eighteen meter deep which you can either exit at ten or five meter. Other submerged rock formations are brilliant as well with one large pinnacle southeast of Sail Rock that goes down to well over thirty meters.
This secluded but heavily visited dive site is full of life and colours, often dived as part of a day tour combined with other spectacular sites nearby. Try to dive here during the afternoon when many of the day boats from Ko Samui and Ko Pha Ngang have started their journey home. Bat fish, scorpion fish, white eyed moray eels, trevally and glassfish are some other fish that you will most probably see. If you dive here in the right season you might even see a whale shark. Perfect for snorkellers, trainee divers but also professional divers will have something to look out for.
