Sharkpoint or Hin Mu Sang is one of the dive sites located in the center of the Phuket region at twenty-five kilometres east of Phuket, only eight hundred meters from Anemone Reef and less than one kilometre from the King Cruiser Wreck. It is named after the many leopard sharks or zebra sharks that are so often seen dozing in the sand. It's easy to approach them and many divers succeed in touching their skin or fins. Don't do this as this is considered an extremely frightening experience for the dozing sharks. Sharkpoint was actually the first dive site put under nature conservation in Thailand awarded the status of an official marine sanctuary in 1992.

Below its small rocky outcrop that just breaks the surface you will find three large sections of some of the best coral reefs you will see in the Phuket region. It are three pinnacle like reefs full of the best pieces of brilliantly coloured soft and hard corals, but also with many colourful tropical fish. Its western side drops steeply from the surface down to 22 meters deep, while its eastern side gradually descents. There are brightly lit anemones, fantastic barrel sponges, huge gorgonians and lots of pelagic species guarding the parameter. The pinnacle houses banded boxer shrimps and hinge-beak shrimps, but also different types of moray eels such as the fibrillated and yellow margined morays. Near the deepest most southern rocks you will often spot tiger tail sea horses and nice examples of hard corals. Other common creatures are turtles, potato groupers, barracuda's, tuna and huge schools of squid near the surface.

To see everything you should make at least one single dive at each one of the reefs. These dive sites are right into the open ocean midway between Phuket, Krabi and Ko Phi Phi and are often plagued with strong currents and high surge. It is one of the richest marine habitats with always something worth looking at.
