West of Ko Phi Phi Lae is a small bay named Ao Maya or Maya Bay that offers an excellent cavern and some nice walls just outside the bay. Maya Bay is the place where Leonardi di Caprio filmed part of the movie the beach in 2000. This made the bay world famous and increased the amount of dive tours and snorkeling boats. Although the reef is not extremely covered in coral, it attracts quite a few species of marine life. It is a nice dive site with easy access, low currents and enough interesting sights to take a look at. Its beach is heaven however so if you can you should spend some time here.

On the north side there are some good opportunities of spotting hawksbill turtles. The reef gradually slopes down with a nice mini wall and swimmthrough at 17 meters in its most north-western point often called Maya Corner. The south of the bay offers extremely steep cliffs which continue under water. Maya Cave has an opening of more than twenty meters. It consists out of a few huge chambers in which you can surface and enjoy the beautiful stalactites in rooms with ceilings fifteen meters high. Don't continue further than the first cavern without the proper training and equipment as the whole cave area is large enough to get lost in. Another nearby wall is named Maya Wall which is a very nice wall dive. This area is mostly visited by snorkelling tourists.
