Koh Tarutao offers a former political prison, some excellent caves and high speed dive sites.

Koh Tarutao is the largest island of the Tarutao National marine Park and she is together with Koh Lipeh Island your only choice for staying overnight. We strongly suggest you try to book some sort of accommodation in advance but even then it can be that your camping spot is taken or that the booking didn't come through. You just have to hope for the best. Near the entrance of the park are some sleeping places in the form of long houses. You can also ask for the ranger's permission to camp on the designated areas. A small restaurant and some souvenir shops are available but don't count on it! Be sure you can be self sustainable for the days you would like to stay here.

Most tourist that get here have started their trip in Phuket and are on board of long liveaboard diving vacations. There just aren't any good spots yet near Satun and Langkawi to arrange these kind of trips. Its remote and quiet reefs are absolutely spectacular, healthy and nutritient. You can find all tropical species living in Thai waters with dugongs and dolphins probably as the most amazing ones. Diving here can be for advanced divers only with strong currents and often huge surface swells.

This lush rainforest island used to be a prisoners camp in the early forties. The inmates stayed in wooden houses with no strict regulation because that wasn't necessary. The crocodiles nearby living in the mangroves and the distance from shore made sure that nobody escaped. A popular sight is a cave named Crocodile Cave which can be reached by longtail boat across Tarutau's most important stream. Once you enter the cave you have to continue by raft. Diving around the shores of Ko Tarutau is absolutely spectacular although there is not much known about excellent dive sites in particular.
