White Rock or Hin Khao is a very popular and crowded dive site nearby the small fishing and harbour villages of Ban Mae Hat and Ban Hat Sai Ri. Right outside Sairee Beach are two buoys that take you down safely to the northern rock named White Rock and its southern smaller brother Coral Garden. White Rock reaches the surface within two meters from the ocean line while Coral Garden is a much deeper coral head. Both are topped with anemones and have their grannies and holes filled with crabs, moray eels and shrimps.

Marine life is abundant, well adapted to divers and numerous enough to sustain all parts of the food chain. One of Koh Tao's most famous creatures is 'Trevor the terrible', a titan trigger fish who has ruled around the rock for years and could become quite aggressive especially when defending his nest. Divers have seen him waiting around rocks, creating ambushes, sneaking up to divers and biting in fins and masks. Some species you might encounter during the night are giant yellow-tailed barracuda who hunt for the small critters that are disoriented when your flashlight removes their eyesight. Macroscopic life is spectacular during a night dive as you can see many kinds of feather stars, hunting cones and feeding stingrays. This time of the day is for some fish the only time you can actually see its normal activities in life. Novice divers can stay shallow while advanced divers can take a look around its base. A great and spectacular night dive not to be missed on one of your days on Koh Tao.
