Microscopic Costasiella Sea Slug from Koh Phangan.

One of the most interesting and popular dive locations on Koh Phangan, Koh Ma island is adjoined to Mae Haad beach by a sand bar, offering two great dive sites with a vast array of reef fish for snorkelers and divers alike.

The main reef runs parallel to the beach, approximately 70m offshore. The area between the beach and reef is very shallow, rarely deeper than 1.5m, which makes it ideal for snorkeling and swimming. On the seaward side, the reef meets the beginning of the large sandy flat which begins around 5m, before sloping gradually to a depth of around 12m. The small island of Koh Ma lies to the north of the reef. Again, this is an excellent area for snorkelling, as well as a long, interesting dive to a maximum of around 15m.

A diverse range of marine life such as Groupers, Fusiliers, Angelfish and Butterflyfish can be found idling between spectacular Corals and Anemones, and if you look a little closer, you may even find Cuttlefish, Shrimp, Stingrays and Nudibranchs.

Snorkeling Note: Accessible from the beach, this reef is an ideal site for both novice and advanced divers and snorkellers.
