Just east of Ko Payan is a long narrow ridge with at its end a dive site named Boulder City. A bit closer to the island lies Shark Fin Reef, which has become famous for its large numbers of reef and leopard sharks. Boulder City covers a large area and has many granite boulders, smaller pinnacles and rocky canyons as its main topography. The shallowest boulder formations are in the center of this dive spot and are therefore the most common place to end your dive.

As with many other places in the Similans you will see a wide variety of marine life. Among some of the fantastic creatures you can often spot here are leopard sharks, clownfish, jewel basslets, Napoleon wrasses and humphead parrotfish. Its often medium to strong current creates an enormous amount of food which attracts barracuda, trevallies and manta rays. Pay attention to several huge gorgonian sea fans that often sit in between the boulders and tell you which way the current flows. The area is filled more with algae and soft corals than hard corals, but some nice examples can be found. Red and white whip corals become more dominant in deeper waters, while smaller critters such as nudibranches, snails and Spanish dancers live in huge numbers between the boulders.
